Pirates on the Farm - Fun and Witty with a Great Lesson

Whimsical, humorous, and fun, Denette Fretz's Pirates on the Farm is one to read over and over again. From the beginning, it has all the markings of a good children's book--a durable hard cover for those numerous storytimes; colorful, fun, and detailed illustrations; and a witty story with the overarching value of loving your neighbour.

Kids will get excited about the pirates, not to mention what happens to them on a farm. And, importantly, they'll learn about loving those who aren't exactly like them. I also appreciated the parent's note at the end of the book, as well as some "Seadog Definitions" for all the kids who want to be pirates after reading the story.

Barretta's illustrations add to the already exciting tale. The art is meticulous and very kid-friendly, from the expression in each characters' face to the larger scenes. Children will love looking through this book.

For the kids who can't get enough of the pirates, you can find more Pirates on the Farm on Fretz's website: denettefretz.com. I will definitely be checking out the upcoming books in The Next Door Series!
