$10 Great Dates - Prepare to Get Romantic

I think it's safe to say that everyone would be happy to increase the romance in their relationship but don't want to spend a lot of money. This book is for you.

Obviously, $10 Great Dates is full of date ideas under $10. There are over 50 chapters, each with their own category--Adventure, Out-on-the-Town, At-Home, The Great Outdoors, Marriage Pick-Me-Up, Romantic, Seasonal Specials, and Unique and Unusual great dates. Each chapter includes an overview of the date idea, some preparation points (before and during), talking points, and the takeaway. With this extra date planning information, the ideas have a lot more meaning.

What I loved:
The Christian perspective. It's hard to find a book like this that has a healthy, not worldy viewpoint. The oodles of fun ideas. I could go on a lot of dates for a long time with this kind of resource. Things I wouldn't have thought of include "Dining Under the Stars," "Time Travel," and "Christmas Lights." W…

Pray the Scriptures - 40 Days in Prayer

Looking for something to refresh your prayer life? Try reading Kevin Johnson's "Pray the Scriptures." All it takes is 40 days.

Pray the Scriptures is exactly what it sounds like--a 40-day devo to enrich and deepen your prayer life. Each day has a short intro ("Find Rest," "Saved," Thriving in Trials," etc.), followed by several Bible passages. between these passages are prompts to help you reflect on the verses and several lines which you can use to write down your thoughts. Following that are a few reflection and discussion questions.

What I really liked about this book was that it really makes the scriptures meaningful. By pairing different verses together and including an intro paragraph before (to make it more personal), the Bible verses gain a lot of meaning. As well, by forcing the reader to really reflect on the passage (with a bit of context), readers think more in-depth, which in turn makes the discussion questions more meaningful at the …

Just Sayin' Book Review - So Much Fun!

Do you have a tween girl? Get her "Just Sayin'" by Carol McAdams Moore. Together with "Dare U 2 Open This Book" (boy version), McAdams Moore has a smash hit on her hands.

This book is full of fun, creativity, and, most importantly, devotions. "Just Sayin'" is written as a 90-day devotional study, complete with writing and praying prompts; space to doodle, colour, and scribble; and Bible verses and prayers.

Here's one example: day 22 focuses on Ephesians 1:7-8, which says "In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God's grace that he lavished on us." The rest of the devotional builds on this grace and forgiveness, asking the reader to think of the best gift they ever got (and glue in the wrapping paper) and glue or draw a picture of themselves in a mirror, reflecting on how God "lavishes grace on you." It's well done, and relays Bible verses in a way that g…
