Wonderful Devotional for Kids
I Can Learn to Pray is a great introduction for children into a closer relationship with God. The book has 52 weekly devotions and is divided into 7 sections; Learning to Pray, Thank You Prayers, Wow Prayers, I'm Sorry Prayers, Help! Prayers, How to Listen, and Jesus Prayers.
Each devotion for the week started with a family "activity" (such as building a fort to talk about the meaning of protection), then talks a bit more in-depth about the type of prayer (including lots of Bible verses and easy-to-understand language), and finally ends with a way of putting the prayer into practice (for instance, spend 5 minutes outside each day of the week worshipping God's creation).
I think this is an excellent book that makes the most important life lesson of all--connecting with their Saviour--accessible and fun.
This book would be great to read as a family on a certain night of the week. For younger kids, the activity would be a fun introduction. For older kids, putting praying into practice would be illuminating. As an adult, I got a lot out of this book--it's a great reminder for parents, too!
Bonus--the illustrations were really cute and applied to each devotion--it was really kid-friendly. I highly recommend this book and I will be checking out I Can Learn the Bible next.
