Bathsheba: Reluctant Beauty - A Fresh Twist on an Old Story

Bathsheba--now, that is a name. This story is familiar, yet, often left undiscussed in the "awkward" file of the Bible. This fictionalized version follows her story as a young wife to Uriah to her life with King David (and among the other wives). The story switches between Bathsheba's viewpoint and the Prophet Nathan's view, which keeps the story interesting and provides further enlightenment. The story certainly doesn't end with the famous incident, but goes on to follow Bathsheba's growth and life.

It turns out that I'm a sucker for Biblical Fiction (not a big surprise). Occasionally, I'm a bit hesitant, based on how the book's author translates the Biblical story--sometimes it doesn't line up with how I view the story.

For me, "Bathsheba: Reluctant Beauty" achieved two things.

1. It made me want to reread the original story and it showed aspects to the original story that I'd never realized before.

2. The story was captivating and interesting; I thoroughly enjoyed reading it.

Where it fell a bit short for me was the depiction of King David. Perhaps this vision of him is more realistic, but I definitely have my own views that colored my opinion of the book. For the most part, I could overlook that and see this as a fictional depiction.

Overall, I would recommend; this series has been fantastic so far.
