Book Review: The Secret Keeper by Beverly Lewis

If you are a fan of Amish fiction, I highly recommend adding The Secret Keeper to your reading list. Beverly Lewis is renowned for her quaint, simpler tales of Amish life, and this book did not disappoint.

The Secret Keeper is the story of a modern girl, Jenny Burns, deciding to join an Old Order Amish community and learn their ways. The story follows the ups and downs of her experience and also those of the people around her.

I really enjoyed feeling like part of the Old Order Amish world. As a girl in a modern world, I often share the same feelings Jenny had about wanting a simpler life, and that made it really easy to relate to the main character and share in her excitement and tribulations.

While I really enjoyed the world that Beverly Lewis created (and learning a bit more about Amish culture in the process), I also found the story intriguing and interesting. There are other challenges in the Amish community besides those that are obvious, and it was exciting to see how everything developed.

Another thing I really appreciated about this story was the romantic element. I liked that the book didn't lean on the romantic element to develop the story; instead, it was a very pure, precious part that is rare in modern novels.

In all, I really enjoyed this book and I will be keeping it on my bookshelf for years to come.
