A Sweeping Tale of WWII Poland

This story truly takes you on a ride! It's a tale of love, loss, war, grief, hope, endurance, and, of course, horses.

Until Our Time Comes begins at Janów Podlaski stables in Poland, where American horse trainer Adia Kensington lives her dream of working with the best Arabian horses in the world. Very quickly, her plans are shifted as she has to work to rescue this amazing herd of horses from the onslaught of war. Integral to this journey is British spy Bret Conway, who is initially tasked with keeping Adia safe (while trying to keep his own heart intact!).

This sweeping tale takes readers right from the beginning of the German invasion in 1939 through the end of World War II and beyond.

I thought the plot of this book was very well done. I loved imagining the charismatic horses and state-of-the-art stables at Janów Podlaski. I also found the WWII aspect to be heart-wrenching as I waited for a resolution to the war.

I did find the pacing could be a little bit slow, even though the story had a lot of exciting moments. Sometimes the story felt a bit more journalistic (i.e., this happened, and then this thing) and I wished for more depth in the characters (especially backing characters like the German colonel, Werner, and even some of the partisans). That said, it was still a really great story and had a lot of creative events throughout the years of war.
