A Twist on the Classic Romance

Sometimes you just see a book with a great cover and can’t wait to dive in. This was the case for Julia Monroe Begins Again (can you blame me—that green!).

The novel’s namesake, Julia, has just entered a new season of life—her 40s. While still a single Mom, her kids have gone off to college and she’s eager to expand her cleaning business. Until an old flame shows up. At her church, no less.

I enjoyed a lot about this novel, but here’s what stuck out to me:

*the New Orleans setting—Millet did a great job of sprinkling cultural elements throughout the book, so you really feel the place.

*a twist on a romantic novel. Julia Monroe is in her 40s with grown kids, and it was refreshing to read a book about someone who isn’t falling in love for the first time.

*the depth of the story. So, there was a bit of a trope at play—girl meets guy after he breaks her heart and they fall for each other all over again. But there was a lot to unpack from their relationship, and readers get to go along on that journey. It adds a bit more spice than you’d expect.

Rebekah Millet’s debut will keep you flipping pages. Enjoy the journey!
