A Christmas Tradition

I don’t know about you, but it’s become a bit of a Christmas tradition for me to read one of Melody Carlson’s Christmas novellas every year. These themed books always get me in the spirit of Christmas, and since they are novella-sized, they are easily palatable in a busy season.

A Quilt for Christmas might be my favorite read yet. Carlson has a gift for creating memorable, likeable characters, and from the very first pages, readers meet Vera—a widow feeling especially lonely this time of year—and Fiona—a spunky young girl destined to make Vera’s season bright.

Circumstances necessitate that Fiona and Vera meet, and when Fiona notices a beautiful quilt that Vera created, she has a bold idea—making a quilt for her mother for Christmas. To do so will take a team, and Vera and Fiona assemble an unlikely group, from colorful Tasha to slightly crusty Eleanor.

Like all her Christmas novellas, this book is so sweet and gives readers a happy ending. I really enjoyed the unfolding of the story and getting to know the varied characters. And—how can you go wrong with a lovely Christmas story?
