Great Guide to Building Spiritual Rhythms

COVID-19 has made changes for a lot of people. At my church, our pastor encouraged us to use this time to focus on growing spiritually. So, I was drawn to The Divine Adventure as a tool to help me with spiritual practices.

What a great resource for anyone looking to grow their faith—and develop rhythms of practice!

Friedlander offers 12 chapters that outline different spiritual practices. They outline things you'd expect, like Prayer, Scripture, and Worship, but also areas I hadn't considered, like Forgiveness, Pilgrimage, and Rest.

I took the summer to devour this book and let the teachings sink in. And it's that kind of book—you need to slowly consume it to allow for real transformation.

The Divine Adventure certainly is inspiring, but it's also practical. A good portion of each chapter is teaching, but it ends with "Your Turn" and "Spiritual Practice," which include thoughtful questions on the subject and a starting point to apply it to your life. I love that in these kind of reads, where I feel challenged by the text, but I'm not sure what to do next.

I highly recommend this book if you are feeling a bit stagnant in your faith. I know, for me, it challenged and spoke to me—God even used certain chapters I was reading to really speak to me about different issues in my life. I'm looking forward to sharing this book with many others in my life next.
