A Noble Groom - Jody Hedlund Book Review

Okay, I'll admit it. I enjoyed this book. I'm so glad to have discovered a Jody Hedlund novel. There was enough tension, twists, and turns in this novel to keep me glued to and invested in the story. Somehow, she was able to make me feel like I was right there with the characters and on the tumultuous journey with them.

A Noble Groom focuses on seemingly helpless Annalisa Werner. She is about to lose the farm, is in need of a husband, and is controlled by so many others. She's a likeable, hard worker, but I don't envy her situation. Then Carl Richards shows up. He's unlike any other man she knows, and she can't quite believe it.

I loved the setting of this book (farm country, Michigan--late 1800s), and that initially drew me in. But it is Hedlund's ability to create engaging, unique characters and driven, exciting plotlines that kept me reading. This story is much more than a simple love story--it's a mystery and war against the odds at the same time.

I will definitely be sharing this book with my fellow romantics. Hedlund is also an author I'm going to keep a look out for in the future.
