Return to Sunday Dinner by Russell Cronkhite

I liked this cookbook. I think it would be useful in any kitchen.

Split into 24 menus/themed Sunday dinners, there is definitely something for everyone.

Some of my favourite sections include the following:
  • From Hearth and Home
  • In the Neighborhood
  • Autumn in New England
  • An Ancient Heritage
  • A Sabbath Day Supper
And a sampling of recipes to highlight:
  • Ginger-peach chutney
  • Mustard-glazed corned beef with cabbage and braised root vegetables
  • Double-skillet cornbread
  • Chicken and sausage gumbo
  • Warm pear strudel with vanilla sauce
Each chapter begins with a short description of the theme of the menu, and then dives straight into the recipes; main course, sides, and dessert, along with a handy time-saving and do-ahead checklist at the close of each chapter.

This isn't my favourite cookbook, for a few reasons, but I think that has to do with my style of cooking.

First, the recipes in this book were outstanding, but difficult. My style of cooking is simple and cheap (and maybe not always tasty...:) ), and the recipes in this book were intense. But I do think they would be very worthwhile to try if cooking is a passion of yours or if you'd like to dedicate some time to creating a fantastic meal.

I liked the full course dinners, the premise of the book, and the variety in the recipes. If you're looking to stretch your abilities and impress your family or enjoy a delicious, relaxing meal together, try it this Sunday night with Return to Sunday Dinner.
